June 2015

June 2015 is here, which means a couple of things. The best and most important is it is nearing the visit from two of our favorite 'Kansanians', Linda and Jana James.  This is a great chance for them to get away from those famous midwest tornados and join us during hurricane season. Keep in mind we have not had a hurricane in 10 years. They, however had a tornado about 10 minutes ago and every 10 minutes before that. We do have our share of tornadoes here, only we give them the softer name of water spouts.

ALASKA CRUISE 2013

KANSAS CHRISTMAS 2012
Whatever the weather it will be made sunny and bright just by their presence!

June is also Fuzzys' birthday month. We may not be getting any closer in age, but we sure are in grey hair.

It has been quiet around Sliders Place. Since I no longer have the little car in the carport and my Envoy is too big to put in there unless I want to exit the car through the window, I decided to to put it to some other use. I pressure washed the front patio and moved my rattan set to the car port. There is a nice breeze and it is shaded in the afternoons. The grill is stored there and out of the weather and can easily be moved to the open patio for use. I sat out this morning to have my coffee and it was quite enjoyable. When the car is in the driveway it is also pretty private. I hope to get some use out of it. I rarely used the back porch because it was always so hot in the afternoons. As evidenced by this candle which has been on the back porch for several years.

Right now I am doing something which is rarely done in recent years. I am waiting for an actual TV repair man to come to the house. One thing which has not changed over the years is service. The appointment was for 10am and it is now noon. I just called and got the answering service. The reason for the service is really stupid and totally my fault. I was moving the tv just a little and the wire to the sound bar is very short. It snapped off the center poles to the connecting plugs. They broke off evenly in the tv so they cannot be grabbed by anything to pull them out. I am not going to risk taking the back of the tv off so I called to have it done. The tv is a 60" so it was not feasable  to take it in.

My friend, Richard Bone has a 4 song vinyl EP titled 'OBTUSE TANTRUMS' being released in the UK this summer. If you would like to visit his website and see what he has been up to, click the link below.

Sunny and Marty had their graduation at the square dancing group they belong to. I was invited to attend and had a great time. So now they are no longer beginners! Congratulations.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Anne Meara. The duo of Stiller and Meara have been favorites of mine for many years. Just a personal anecdote, I met them about 51 or 52 years ago. I was a teenager working as a busboy at a hotel on the beach and they were staying there playing local clubs. I saw them and talked to them every day during their stay. I remember they had their daughter Amy with them and she was about 4 or 5 years old. They were very nice and naturally funny, which is why I remember it so vividly. I knew who they were from the Ed Sullivan Show.

Along with summer comes the returning and new Summer TV series. Some I am looking forward to are:
  • The Whispers
  • Hannibal
  • Major Crimes
  • Dark Matter
  • Under The Dome
  • Falling Skies
  • Zoo
